No man can PLEASE two masters???

Earlier this year God used part of a bible study of Galatians to show me some things in my life that weren't quite right, & recently I have been drawn back again to study this wonderful letter from Paul. 
I hope I don't bore you & this gives you something to think about, but pray someone will be blessed with what God has been showing me!

                                                                    Galatians Chapter 1.

So Paul is writing to the Galatians. He describes himself (that he was sent by Jesus Christ and God the father). He goes on to give his typical greeting of grace and peace, praise the Lord a little and give God the glory. He then jumps right into what looks like is a big reason for writing (or else it is just on his mind) and he doesn't mince his words, he doesn't sugarcoat it, but he says it all in such a way that you just have to love! 

He says: 

"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel..." (vs. 6)

He's saying:

"Hey! Seriously!? You're already leaving Christ for another gospel?" He goes on to say "if we, or even an angel, preach any gospel to you other than that which you have already received, let him be accursed!" 

"Am I trying to persuade men, or God? Hey, guys?! Hello!! If I was still trying to please men I wouldn't be serving Christ! So I assure you, the gospel I preach to you is not from me & was not taught to me by man, but it was given me by revelation from Jesus Christ himself!!!"

Here is the passage:

¹ Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)
² And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:
³ Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
⁴ Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
⁵ To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
⁶ I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
⁷ Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
⁸ But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
⁹ As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
¹⁰ For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
¹¹ But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
¹² For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Verse 10 is what is really stuck out to me: ¹⁰ For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
        Another version says it like this:

"Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ."

It sounds to me like Paul is saying there's no way he could try to please men while he is still serving Christ! As we know, Paul didn't have the easiest life, but he did say he had learned the secret of being content in all circumstances right?  (Philippians 4:11)

 So what exactly does that look like? Not trying to please men, I mean. I imagine one might lose a few friends, and it probably could look like a lonely life. That right there makes some of us nervous. A lot of us get our identity out of what our friends & others think of us, right? But don't I care what others think? Don't I let their bad opinion of me spoil my day occasionally? Do we all really not "give a rip" about how others think of us?

Wow. So I can't serve Christ and still try to please man at the same time? This is starting to sound like Matthew 6:24, and Luke 16:13:

"No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and man." Luke 16:13 (KJV)

You say; "Common, Rachel! Everybody knows you can't serve two masters! Where are you going with this? Isn't this kinda long winded already?!" :)

Yes, I know. And I've known that "no man can serve two masters, no he can't" for a while, (I can even sing the song for you) but don't fret; I won't, & I'm pretty much done. Here is my thought:

So let me get it straight, not only can I NOT serve two masters; 

I can't even try to please one while serving the other! 

Oh Lord, help me serve you alone & seek to please you alone for the rest of my days!!!
